Natural Ways To Quit Smoking: Some WorkSome Don't

By Bruce J. Bloom

I took my last drag on a cigarette 13 years ago. I kicked my 27 year addiction to nicotine naturally. No pills. No nicotine patchesinhalers or gum. And no herbs, either.

For me, quitting naturally meant no substances of any kind. Nada.

I knew I was a nicotine junkie, and it just didn't seem logical to me that I should be using still more nicotine to try to quit. I questioned the safety of chemicals. If they were safe, why did they come with warnings? How come many doctors advised pregnant women to stay away from them?

All I wanted was to stop smoking, to try to get rid of the bad stuff I'd been inhaling into my body year after year. By then my mother and my brother, both big smokers, had died of lung cancer, and I wasn't eager to join them. At least not right away.

OK, no patches or pills. I tried cold turkey. I gave meditation a shot. And there was my favorite method, cutting back a little each day. I learned a lot about what doesn't work.

At the top of the "doesn't work" list is cutting down. I've never known smokers who were able to cut down a little each day, trying to get to no cigarettes at all. It doesn't take long before they're right back where they started, smoking away all day long. Cutting down simply doesn't work. Either you smoke or you don't smoke. You have to make up your mind.

I nearly made it going cold turkey. Tried it several times before I understood I'd never succeed. I'd go a week, maybe two, once even two and a half months. Then back on the cigarettes. And would you believe it, I also smoked a pipe, which I would take from my huge collection.

I needed help. For me that help came, in the end, from inside me. I took the time to stop and think it all through. Why did I start? Why do I smoke? Do I need willpower to stop? Why am I afraid to stop? It was only after I solved these puzzles that I stopped smoking, once and for all.

I learned that the natural way to quit smoking is a mind game. My quitting wasn't the result of my body's reaction to some chemical. It happened because I changed the way I thought about tobacco, and what it meant in my life. After that it was easier than I thought it could be. No anxiety, and very few withdrawal problems. I've never smoked another cigarette. I even threw out my pipes.

Today there are scores of natural stop-smoking programs you can download right from the Internet. Some involve one form or another of hypnosis, and I'm told many smokers find them to be effective. But knowing what I know now, if I were still smoking I'd choose a program to help me recognize the realities of smoking, and revise my thinking. Because that's what had to happen to me before I could kick the habit.

There are programs on the market that have questionable value, so use care in choosing one. If the claims sound inflated, move on to something else. Legitimate programs will return your money if you fail to stop smoking, or for any reason at all, for that matter. - 20606

You Can Create Your Own World Using The One Command

By Asara Lovejoy

We are so filled with mis-beliefs. In fact, they are way off base. There are many that we do not even know how we got. However, they are there none the less.

Our life beliefs are downloaded between the ages of zero and five. During this period of time we are unguarded and absorb information quickly and easily. We are unblocked by the information that we have gained later in life. The very beliefs we pick up at this young age are the same beliefs we will hold throughout our life.

Our mistaken beliefs include but are not limited to: people cant be rich and spiritual, everyone in our family is overweight, life begins after retirement, my vote doesnt count, and so on.

If you could release all of the misbeliefs and replace them with positive peaceful beliefs, what would you say? All you need to do is say The One Command and you shall be set free. To properly say The One Command, simply, say I dont know how I make smart decisions, I only know I do Now, and I am fulfilled. Once you have completed this, Stop! Know that you indeed are blessed and released from your old addiction.

Be cautious, your thoughts and beliefs can be just as addictive as chocolate or ice cream. Know that you even have some addiction beliefs or thoughts you are not even aware of. Your thoughts and beliefs can actually keep you from succeeding. Release yourself with The One Command and be free. Forgive your past mistakes and move on to the life you want and deserve.

When you first are trying this technique, negative thoughts do not mean you are not succeeding. It just means that you have set those thoughts free to your conscious mind. Now, you will be able to release each one of them. I bet by the time you have released three or four of them the rest will disintegrate as thoughts travel in packs and feed off each other. Go forth and prosper is the only thing left for you to do. - 20606

Improve your vertical jumps

By Lynn Lopez

How many inches can you jump vertically? Ten, fifteen? That would probably be all right if you're a regular person who doesn't play a lot of sports, but that's a minimal height if you're an athlete, especially one who plays sports like volleyball and basketball. Those particular sports need serious vertical jumps from players. Have you ever heard of a volleyball player who can barely clear the net in an attempt to spike the volleyball back to the other court? Can a basketball player who can't jump very high possibly smash that ball into the net? As you can see, doing great vertical jumps is very important to an athlete.

Vertical jumps greatly rely on, not just the strength of your calves and your legs, but on the muscle power of your entire body, especially your thighs which help support your body weight and drive you upwards while you jump. To improve your muscle strength, you need to perform both strengthening exercises for your lower body as well as power workouts, which will condition your muscles to lengthen and contract quickly. Before performing any of these sets, make sure that your body is properly warmed up first; stretching your legs is particularly important.

Strength exercises for your legs include doing squats and lunges. Both exercises test your thigh and leg muscles, training them to carry your weight at its maximum level. You can also do several reps of vertical jumps each day; this might seem strange if you know you're not a very high jumper, but after a while, your body will get used to the movement and you'll develop the strength to jump even higher with each workout session.

Doing tuck jumps will also work your thighs and legs, preparing them for vertical jumps. Tuck jumps involving you bending your knees as the starting position, after which you will then bend into a deep squat, then launch upwards, bringing your knees to your chest in the middle of the jump. Upon landing, make sure your legs fall back into a squat. Repeat the tuck jumps as necessary, and remember to do these on a soft, stable surface.

When you're working to improve your vertical jump, remember to give your legs a break for a couple of days each week. You might think that training hard will help you jump higher more quickly, but you're only opening your legs to the risk of an injury. As with any workout, rest whenever you feel tired or are experiencing a sharp pain in your muscles, and always work out with a trainer to supervise you. - 20606
